Planning a trip, especially one on a budget, can be tricky. But luckily, I've been there and done that, and I want to help you have the best experience you can have! So here's some tips:
GAS: it's one of the biggest expenses you'll have on a trip. So figure out ahead of time how far you're going and about how many times you'll have to fill up. Use gasbuddy.com to help find the cheapest gas near you. Also, know where you're at! In some states, you can't fill up your own tank (like Oregon) unless it says self-serve.
FOOD: Are you going to eat out a lot or cook? This needs to be calculated in your expenditure. If you don't plan ahead, this can quickly add up. Also, if you go to the NE and need to do some grocery shopping, you can save a little extra if you don't use the plastic bags to put your groceries in when you check out. A lot of places charge per bag.
SHOWERS: If you're staying in your car/van and don't have a shower, get a Planet Fitness membership. It's cheap, and if you travel with someone, you only need one black card membership to get you both in.
NATIONAL PARKS: If you plan on going to more than 2 national parks in a year, get yourself an annual parks pass. This will save you tons of money, and can also get you into some state parks for free as well! https://store.usgs.gov/pass
PUPS: If you have dogs and want to bring them with you, look into where you can take them in the National Parks. Most of the ones in the US only allow dogs on certain trails. BUT National Forests are the opposite. They are very dog friendly.
These are the basics to trip planning. If you have any questions on something more specific, feel free to message me on instagram! My info is on the Contact page. Happy traveling friends!
